Former NFL Star Rob Gronkowski Enters the CBD Industry
[dropcap class=”kp-dropcap”]F[/dropcap]ormer New England Patriot and three-time professional football champion Rob “Gronk” Gronkowski announced that he will partner with Abacus Health Products to release CBDMEDIC, a line of topical CBD products.
Gronkowski retired from the National Football League (NFL) last March, at the young age of 29. The former tight end was forced to retire after a series of injuries. “I needed to recover. I was not in a good place.” Gronkowski told CBS Boston. “Football was bringing me down, and I didn’t like it.” He went on to say that had he tried CBD earlier, he may have been able to prevent some of the injuries he sustained while in the NFL.
According to a 2017 study from The Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA), as many as 25 percent of NFL players suffer from chronic traumatic encephalopathy, and most players have indicators of the disease in their brains. The NFL has toyed with the idea of lifting its ban on medical cannabis consumption by players for pain management for a new collective bargaining agreement for the 2021 season.
“I’m excited to start a new chapter of my career as an advocate for recovery and an investor and partner with Abacus—a company that I truly believe in,” Gronkowski stated in a press release. “During my football career, I pushed myself while recovering from nine surgeries and countless injuries. I was in near constant pain and needed to make a change. After retiring, I looked for better and more natural ways to recover and discovered CBDMEDIC through my dad. These products have helped me safely manage pain better than anything else I’ve tried. The line of topical CBD-infused products will be developed with input from Gronkowski. The line will include 10 over-the-counter topical pain relief medications for muscle and joint pain, back and neck pain, and arthritis-related pain, stiffness and swelling. They will contain 100 percent natural emollients (skin-softening ingredients), essential oils and broad spectrum CBD-rich hemp oil that is free from THC.
