How and when did your collective start up?

During the San Jose
marijuana dispensary boom of 2010, the founders of Platinum Society, who are
also residents of Willow Glen, noticed that most of the dispensaries were
located in industrial areas away from the public. As medical patients, they
felt like the community deserved a cannabis facility that not only offered
quality products but was also close to home.

What’s the story behind the name of your collective?

The founder was in
Brazil working at a hospice for his church. A native from São Paulo looked at
the platinum cross he was wearing and said “Thank You Platinum.” The
name has stuck with him ever since, because he sees it as an ongoing service
for the people.

What does your collective offer patients that they can’t find
anywhere else?

Being located in the
heart of Downtown Willow Glen makes this a prime location. Patients can shop
and dine at some of the area’s best retail establishments, while picking up
their medical marijuana.

What are the biggest challenges you face in this industry as a
collective? . . . Biggest joys?

Although there has been
much talk about marijuana in the last five years, the industry is still very
new, diverse and always evolving. Our biggest challenge is ourselves. Because
we set such a high standard, being able to maintain that can be hard.

What is the one thing you want patients to know about your
collective?

That there is both
street side and private parking in our back lot. Many new patients are unaware
of this, but I guess the secret is out now!

If someone wanted to open a collective and get their feet wet in
the industry, what advice or counsel would you give them?

One definitely has to
have a genuine passion for the industry. Lately, there seems that there are a
lot of entrepreneurs who are trying to get into the industry for the wrong
reasons, ultimately failing to reach their goals. The ones that seem to be
thriving are the long time advocates who were able to capitalize on their
experience.
