A large scale raid was executed in Denver this morning– Tues, Oct. 28– by a combination of both federal agents and the Denver city police. The police and agents executed several warrants around town simultaneously. Law enforcement gave little comment other than expressing that the warrants were part of an investigation involving both the Denver Police Department and the Colorado Attorney General’s Office.

As of now, it is unclear exactly which grow ops were affected by this raid. There is no information as to whether these are medical or recreational operations, or a combination of both. Officials have said that more information will be released later on Tues. or on Weds. depending on how long their investigations takes.

The last large scale cannabis raids were eleven months ago, shortly after recreational cannabis became legal. At the time, the raids were part of a drug cartel case. It is still unclear exactly why these raids were set in place. The Denver Police Department has posted to their Twitter that they were conducting an ongoing investigation into illegal drug activity, but they gave no more information.

Huffington Post reported that the grow operations were targeted over misdeeds that “fell within the Justice Department 2013 enforcement priorities,” as well as violating state laws. While the official comments on the situation are still up in the air, this has sent a warning to the cannabis industry to make sure they are within regulation.
