It’s the dreaded disease that felled genius Steve Jobs: pancreatic cancer. One thing that makes this particular form of cancer so serious is that it is very difficult to detect early and equally difficult to treat (with a low survival rate). With November being National Pancreatic Awareness Month, CULTURE brings you some timely information about how you can stay on top of your health. Your pancreas will thank you.

To prevent the onset of pancreatic cancer, eat a healthy diet (lots of fruits and vegetables, avoid fatty, processed meats) and exercise.

Be vigilant for some of the symptoms, including abdominal pain, jaundice, weight loss, nausea, loss of appetite and itchy skin.

If you suspect something, visit your doctor or a medical professional.

Become an advocate and lobby the government for more money for medical research. This form of cancer kills an estimated 31,800 Americans each year.
