So, you’re all about the Kush? But what does the word mean? And where did it come from. Well, given an itch you can’t scratch, allow CULTURE to break it down for you. Kush originates from the Hindu Kush mountain range in Afghanistan and Northern Pakistan—which is also where this high-grade indica came from during the 1970s. Decades later, Kush has been Bogarted to name many facets of pop culture. Here are some examples:

Kush

A band formed in 2000 by Cypress Hill’s B-Real, Deftones guitarist Stephen Carpenter and Fear Factory’s Raymond Herrera and Christian Olde Wolbers.

Land of Kush

A Canadian orchestra founded by composer-musician Sam Shalabi.

Kush Kash Entertainment

A Florida-based advertising company founded in 2009 that promotes reggae, roots and dancehall music.

“Kush”

The name of a track from Dr. Dre’s still-in-the-works studio album Detox.

The song features Snoop Dogg and Akon, and (surprise, surprise) it’s about smoking marijuana.

“I Smoke Kush”

A song from Gucci Mane’s 2008 mixtape, Wilt Chamberlain.

 “OG Kush”

Lil Scrappy’s 2011 single featuring Young Chu. It’s a smoky video. Very smoky.

Kush and Orange Juice

The title of Wiz Khalifa’s 2010 mixtape. Almost as good as chicken and waffles.

Kush Expo

See you Nov. 18-20!
