Willie Nelson is no stranger to politics nor advocacy. He’s the co-chair of NORML’s advisory board, he’s protested against redistricting in his home state of Texas and he’s an advocate for better treatment of horses. No enough? Nelson also cofounded two Pacific Biodiesel plants and he’s got his name on a Ben & Jerry’s ice cream—no wonder he’s been called “the most powerful Texan of all.” And it all started when Nelson moved to Washington in 1956 to begin a formal musical career. By the end of the 1960s, Nelson found a niche in country music’s Outlaw Movement. While he made waves on the political front, Nelson made history in music. The guy has won numerous awards: Grammys, AMAs, CMAs and more. And he’s back on tour, this time with his own one-day festival featuring Jamey Johnson, Randy Houser, Lee Brice, Craig Campbell and more.
