The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources, Bureau for Public Health, Office of Medical Cannabis announced that it will soon be offering an online course that will help provide information about operating licensed cannabis businesses to those hoping to join the industry.

Medical cannabis is now legal in the state under the West Virginia Medical Cannabis Act, which was originally signed into law in April 2017. Currently, cardholders who are approved can consume medical cannabis in either pill, oil or topical forms.

The department’s courses are specifically targeted at providing information about how to operate based on the state’s licensing rules. Those involved in either growing, processing or distributing cannabis in the newly legal medical sector must complete this online course provided by the Office of Medical Cannabis. The course takes about two hours, and participants must receive a score of at least 80 percent to be considered certified.

“Industry training is an essential step in making medical cannabis products available to West Virginians with serious medical conditions,” said Jason Frame, director of the Office of Medical Cannabis. “We continue to work toward the goal of providing eligible state residents with the ability to safely access medical cannabis as quickly as possible.”

People who take the course will learn about the complex cannabis laws in West Virginia, as well as state rules and policies. They will also receive information on how to report illegal activity, how to handle medical cannabis in its different forms, how to keep proper records and more general information about medical cannabis and the industry, including transportation, dispensing, handling and inventory.

Overall, the course will be a welcome opportunity for potential entrepreneurs to learn more about their state’s medical cannabis program. To learn more about details of the course, visit medcanwv.org.
