[dropcap class=”kp-dropcap”]T[/dropcap]ourists visiting Hollywood, California will soon have a new cannabis-themed attraction to check off of their lists. According to a June 24 press release, Weedmaps announced that its pop-up cannabis-themed museum, Weedmaps Museum of Weed, is set to open to the public on Aug. 3 in Hollywood, and run through Sept. 29.

At 30,000 square-feet, Weedmaps is sparing no expense, and the museum will display interactive exhibits, art installations and historical artifacts. The leadership behind Weedmaps hope that they can help to drive advocacy and reform efforts through the museum exhibits.

“Today in the United States, someone is arrested for non-violent possession of cannabis every 48 seconds,” said Chris Beals, CEO of Weedmaps. “That’s over 650,000 arrests annually, consuming hundreds of millions of dollars and resources from law enforcement efforts. There has been too little discussion of the role that the prohibition played in a number of historical and ongoing social injustices.”

Seven meticulously planned exhibits, each with a specific theme, will walk attendees through the various time periods that defined cannabis’s history, plus an additional eighth exhibit to focus on the future of cannabis technology. Those exhibits are the following, with a brief description next to each section:

Pre-Prohibition – early history of cannabis and hemp

Age of Madness – the age of hysteria

Counterculture Revolution – the ‘60s

Behind Closed Doors – The Richard Nixon and DEA era

Entrapment – The Ronald Reagan years

Dose of Compassion – medical cannabis during the AIDS epidemic

Legalization – the legal medical and recreational industries

The Plant Lab – the latest technology in cannabis

The museum was developed in partnership with VIRTUE, a creative agency with links to Vice Media. Weedmaps Museum of Weed will house a gift shop with cannabis-themed gifts to purchase. The museum will also house a cafe catered by Crateful Catering—but sadly no cannabis or cannabidiol (CBD) products will be sold on-site. The museum is located at 720 North Cahuenga Boulevard in Hollywood, California.
