Cannabis and hip-hop have gone hand-in-hand since the genre’s inception. So it should come as no surprise that Tacoma rapper BARZ! would make his album debut all about extolling the virtues of quality cannabis and good times. Recorded over a three-year period and physical copies dropped on April 20, BARZ! delivers rock solid, confident flows over the variety of hazy, funky beats that make up the 10 tracks on Washinstonian. The record is a party albbum for sure, one that’s filled with tunes to pack dance floor. Yet, from the interesting sample-heavy production to BARZ!’s skilled lyricism and flow, there is so much substance within each song that elevates this album above and beyond.
