How and when did your collective start up?

The Founder started the co-op in mid-2014. It included a five-month door-to-door search for the right location that complied with the City of San Diego’s stringent requirements and then a year-long vetting process by the City of San Diego to obtain approval.

What’s the story behind the name of your collective?

Well for one, the founders initials are T.H. Secondly, we are all avid golf lovers and are located by Torrey Pines Golf course. The Holistics portion is representative of our firm belief of complete healing through non- pharmaceutical products. A whole body approach starting with premium medical cannabis products.

How has the cannabis industry changed since you have been in the business? Where would you like to see it go?

The industry has come a long way since we started. From the days of constant raids and looking over our shoulders, to taking a stand against unreasonable legislation that banned co-ops, to establishing a system of strict regulation under which we are allowed to operate. We have been through it all and we are here to stay. It’s with great pride that we finally offer true safe access for our patients. The industry itself needs to head in the direction of transparency and complete legitimacy. We are at the forefront of this effort. Through correct business practices, complete compliance and continual education to others about the Iindustry, we feel the industry will achieve this very soon.

What are the biggest challenges you face in this industry as a collective? Biggest joys?

The constant battle for banking and merchant processing is very frustrating. The IRS takes our tax money. The state takes our tax money. But the treasury department makes it impossible for us to secure banking services or merchant processing. It makes no sense. The biggest joy is the ability to finally be able to work hand in hand with law enforcement and the city to ensure safety and compliancy in our industry. We have long taken a role of leadership in this arena and we are proud to be one of the founding co-ops of the United Medical Marijuana Coalition.

What is the one thing you want patients to know about your collective?

Safety and discretion are our top concerns. All products are lab tested for safety and consistency. And as stated by so many of our members who paid us a visit since we have opened our doors: We have one of the best collections of premium medical cannabis they have ever seen in one place at the same time.

If someone wanted to open a collective and get their feet wet in the industry, what advice or counsel would you give them?

Make sure you are getting into the industry for the right reasons. And DO NOT operate without a license from the city or county in which you locate. It will end badly for the proprietor but more importantly for the patients that need the legal access.

What is the most important thing you hope to accomplish while in the MJ/MMJ community?

We hope to help those in need get their medicine in a safe and comfortable atmosphere where they can discuss their needs with knowledgeable staff. If we have helped someone eat after a round of chemo or helped someone else kick Ambien as a sleep aid, then we have accomplished our goals. At Torrey Holistics it’s all about the patients.
