Strain of the Week: Yoda OG

Published

on

May 4 is Star Wars Day, so there’s no better time to look into one of the cannabis strains inspired by the decades-old franchise. Cannabis and Star Wars have a long-running tradition in terms of names, and many great strains have been named after the people and places in the Star Wars universe (such as Chewbacca, Death Star, Darth Vader and Luke Skywalker, to name a few). But today we’re looking at one of the most important characters in the series—Yoda. Representing the only lasting link between the past history of the Jedi and the present, Yoda embodies a peace and wisdom seldom seen in present day Star Wars film characters. (Luke semi-patiently tutored Rey but he hardly had the centuries of experience while in exiled on Dagobah, like Yoda did). But one thing is for sure—a strain named after Yoda (aptly named Yoda OG) is sure to put you in a peaceful place.

Yoda OG is a cross between OG Kush and Master Yoda. Few strains are more popular OG Kush, with its unique indica-dominant hybrid lineage. It’s got that stereotypical skunk smell, and it’s frequently used to bring on feelings of relaxation and euphoria. Mater Yoda, of course, also shares a similar effect, which makes these two strains’ offspring a wonder to behold.

Yoda OG doesn’t disappoint; it’s covered in an abundance of shimmering trichomes, which hide the medium-green hue of the bud’s flowery tendrils. One might even say that it vaguely resembles Yoda’s own uniquely green exterior. Though CULTURE’s reviewers received a small sample, big things certainly come in small packages here. The smell was surprisingly fruity, with pine and rubber notes.

Most importantly, this strain is not for the faint of heart. Reviewers stated that although the force might be with you, it’s most powerful effect is forcing you to sit on a couch instead of heading out to party. This particular medicine is beneficial to those who need relaxation, or relief from stress, anxiety, insomnia, depression or chronic pain.
