Save the Earth by Living Sustainably

[dropcap class=”kp-dropcap”]I[/dropcap]t’s mere coincidence that 420 and Earth Day are only a few days apart. On one hand, today is the day when cannabis enthusiasts everywhere exercise their right to consume a plant. On the other, Earth Day (which actually takes place on Sunday, April 22) revolves around green alternatives that can be employed around the world. Together, we can use both our passion for cannabis consumption as well as our dedication to making the Earth a better place to live for decades to come the focus of this weekend’s festivities. In a pseudo-New Years resolution style, here are a few ways everyone can work to make our lives more sustainable in 2018 and beyond.

Clean Cultivation

Whether you’re a home grower with a single plant, or a business owner working to cultivate clean cannabis plants, the goal is to grow something natural and free of harmful chemicals. This includes avoiding tools like pesticides or synthetic fertilizers, and replacing them with natural home remedies to keep pests at bay, and fresh organic soil (or even a D.I.Y. compost fertilizer for the home growers).

Support Local Growers

Some business people work harder and pay more money to ensure that their crops are clean and free of harmful or toxic substances. Regardless of whether or not you grow at home, be sure to purchase cannabis products from certified brands and businesses. While they work hard, all customers can benefit! It’s a win-win situation.

Reduce Household Energy Use

If your city/state allows, grow your plants outside and harness the energy of the sun to grow them, rather than wasting precious indoor electricity. This is easier said than done, especially for some people who cannot grow cannabis outside, but if possible, it’s worth the investment.

Recycle Transport Material

Regular cannabis consumers probably frequently visit dispensaries for new products, which are often placed in either plastic or paper so customers can safely transport them back home. States such as California have now specifically created unique packaging to properly label and keep cannabis safe until it is ready to be consume. So it may seem like a small gesture, but be sure to transfer your cannabis into a longer lasting glass jar or equally reusable and safe space. In return, consumers can recycle the paper or plastic through the proper avenues.

Switch to Hemp

The hemp plant is one of the most versatile plants in the entire world. We’ve found ways to make hemp into fuel, we’ve created an airplane completely made with hemp and have even managed to make hemp concrete. It can be used to make clothing, rope and food and is completely biodegradable. Planting a hemp plant can even cleanse soil of toxins and radioactive materials. If you make the switch to purchasing more hemp items, you’re making a beneficial lifestyle change.
