Quiznos to Debut Magic Mushroom Melt Sandwich

Quiznos will debut the Magic Mushroom Melt—a psychedelic-themed sandwich with tie dyed bread, cheese and triple the mushrooms—at a location in Denver, Colorado for one day only on June 22. The restaurant chain is joining the celebration of decriminalized psilocybin mushrooms in the city.

Available for $9 with a free drink and chips, the Magic Mushroom Melt includes a triple serving of mushrooms, tie-dyed Swiss cheese, bacon neon purple and green ranch dressing and tomatoes with tie-dyed bread. The sandwiches will be available at the Quiznos location on 1275 Grant Street in downtown Denver, Colorado.

“This fun and savory new sub will have Denver getting its gastro groove on—at least for one day,” stated Sheila Zimmerman, Vice President of Marketing, REGO Restaurant Group, owner of Quiznos. “While the Magic Mushroom Melt looks psychedelic, the only truly mind-bending elements are its fabulous flavor and artistic design.” Quiznos has been around since 1981 and helped to popularize the toasted sub which was often imitated or duplicated by other major sandwich shop chains like Subway and Jersey Mike’s.

The themed sandwich celebrates Denver’s recent victory in becoming the first U.S. city to decriminalize psilocybin mushrooms. Oakland, California also decriminalized psilocybin mushrooms along with other natural psychedelic substances. Psilocybin is increasingly being explored for its efficacy as an antidepressant.

It’s not the first restaurant sales gimmick designed to celebrate the decriminalization of controlled substances. Last April 20, Carl’s Jr. unveiled its CBD burger for one day only called “The Rocky Mountain High: CheeseBurger Delight.” That burger included Santa Fe Sauce that was infused with 5mg of CBD. Many believe Carl’s Jr. was a celebration of the 2018 Farm Bill and the slow decriminalization of CBD across America.

Get in line early, because the first 50 customers to buy a Magic Mushroom Melt receive a custom Magic Mushroom Melt t-shirt and a Quiznos gift card. The store will be open from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Get your hands on a tie-dyed sandwich while supplies last.
