Nate Diaz Brandishes Blunt Live on TV
Nate Diaz pulled a stunt on an unsuspecting camera crew Sunday night. Diaz was in the audience at the UFC Fight Night Austin on Feb. 18 to watch the heavyweights Derrick Lewis and Marcin Tybura duke it out. As the cameras for FOX Sports 1 passed over Diaz for a total of about six seconds, he whipped out a large blunt and appeared to light it up or feign lighting it up on live TV.
The camera cut away as soon as possible, but the impact had already been made. The audience members around Diaz were visibly amused or offended after he pulled it off.
UFC fighters reacted to the stunt on Twitter, including Demetrious Johnson, Ian McCall, Aljamain Sterling and Jessica Eye, with nearly universal support.
It’s not the first time Diaz has publicly consumed cannabis. In 2016, Diaz vaped cannabidiol (CBD) oil at a post-fight press conference after getting annihilated by Conor McGregor. CBD oil, many believe, is beneficial in alleviating muscle pain and inflammation.
Diaz’ brother Nick Diaz is also definitely a fan of cannabis, and has been punished by the UFC and the United States Anti-Doping Agency for his taste in cannabis. But Nick Diaz’ problems didn’t curb his enthusiasm for the plant.
The Diaz brothers released their own line of cannabis pre-rolls with California Finest, a move that was boosted by Willie Nelson. Since Nate Diaz prefers sativas, his Energy 209 pre-rolls are filled with sativa, and since Nick Diaz prefers indicas, his Recovery 209 pre-rolls are filled with indica.
The Diaz brothers are getting more comfortable with being open about their love of cannabis, and Nate Diaz’ latest stunt is proof of that.
