There are many ways to medicate via smoking: preroll, water pipe, vaporizer, one-hitter—the list goes on and on. But have you heard of “hot knives”? Also called “knife hits” or “spotting,” the practice gets its name from the use of heated-up knife blades to burn small pieces of cannabis. Presumably, this ingenious MacGyver-ish method was prompted by a lack of glassware, a lighter—you know, the usual tools of the trade. Here’s one method we personally field-tested:

Heat up the tip of a stainless steel knife (i.e. a butter knife) over a stove.

Once the tip is hot, drop small amounts of marijuana onto the surface of the knife.

As the marijuana burns on the surface, use a glass tumbler or similar container to capture the resulting smoke.

Suck the smoke (you can use a straw, too) from the glass and inhale. Enjoy!
