We’ve all got our favorite strains, our most popular hybrid, medicine that’s just perfect for us. But, through the magic of movies, television and fiction, there are also forms of marijuana that—wait for it—don’t even exist. Invented by writers, filmmakers and other creative types, here is a sampling of some of the most imaginative—and fictional—forms of marijuana.

MILF Weed

In Season 2 of Weeds, Nancy and Conrad’s strain proves to be extremely popular—so popular that Snoop Dogg deems it necessary to give it a name: MILF Weed. He even wrote a song about it.

Pineapple Express

Atomic High

In the 1986 low-budge cheese-fest (and Troma classic) Class of Nuke ’Em High, high school students discover that very strange things happen after they smoke some (literally) radioactive marijuana they find growing near, of all places, a nuclear power plant. Then everyone turns into Gwar and some gratuitous nudity and violence ensues.

New Caprica Leaf

What, you can’t medicate in the future? Let Battlestar Galactica show you how. This plant, which is indigenous to the planet New Caprica, is enjoyed by several characters from the wildly popular reboot of the sci-fi drama. Pack your pipe—and blast off! Vaporize this, Cylons!

Pipe-Weed

Besides elves, hobbits and other fantastic creatures, J.R.R. Tolkien also filled his world with “an herb with sweet-scented flowers.” Even Gandalf smokes it. And while it tends to be compared to tobacco, several references in The Hobbit describe how smoking the plant can clear your mind and make you more patient, suggesting it was something, well, magical.
