Single Rider
Jenn Champion
Hardly Art
Four years after her last release as S, recently renamed Jenn Champion returns with a new album, Single Rider. While her output as S was marked by alternative/indie rock meets singer-songwriter qualities, Single Rider shows her unveiling a nearly entirely new style to go along with the new name. Brimming with synthesizers and other types of electronic instruments and percussion, the new record finds Champion diving headlong into modern synthpop arrangements and at times channeling the style of Kyle Dixon and Michael Stein’s music for Stranger Things. Yet with all of the stylistic changes, Champion’s smooth, unaffected vocals and honest lyrics remain, keeping the richness and depth of her music intact.
