[dropcap class=”kp-dropcap”]C[/dropcap]andy inventor and Jelly Belly creator David Klein announced that his company is selling jelly beans infused with cannabidiol (CBD) and is available in 38 flavors. While the Jelly Belly company isn’t involved with this new product, Klein’s company Spectrum Confections will sell CBD-infused jelly bean candies in three varieties which are original, sugar-free and sour. Each jelly bean contains a dose of 10 mg of CBD. There is an assortment of gourmet flavors including toasted marshmallow, strawberry cheesecake and mango.

Wholesale buyers must send in their own CBD, however. The company doesn’t process any CBD with a content of 0.30 percent or higher, and the beans are dusted in dextrose, a sugary substance, or Maltitol, another powdery substance for the sugar-free beans. “CBD isn’t always the best taste,” a representative of Spectrum Confections told CBS News. “Therefore adding this layer of flavor creates an immediate masking . . . The CBD is not in the powder.”

A patent for Klein’s recipe for CBD-infused jelly beans is currently in process. It’s not his first candy invention. Back in 1976, Klein invented the gourmet jelly bean with a larger assortment of fine flavors. In 1980, he sold Jelly Belly, but continued to pursue his career in candy. Since then, Jelly Belly has become a dominant leader in jelly beans thanks to its variety of interesting flavors that are available.

Bags of 800 or more pieces of the beans can be purchased on Spectrum Confections’ website. For now, Klein’s CBD-infused beans are currently out of stock, but will be filled shortly, and requests can be made on the website. Reportedly the company’s CBD-infused beans have been flying off the shelves since their inception. Prices are only visible on the website if you set up a customer account.

Coca-Cola is currently in the process of looking into CBD-infused drinks, and several other companies have announced interest. Given the explosive success of Klein’s CBD-infused jelly beans, rest-assured you will see more of them on candy store shelves in the near future.
