UFC Star Nate Diaz’s woes are just beginning after he vaped cannabidiol oil at a post-fight press conference in Las Vegas. Diaz made a statement by vaping after a brutal loss to Conor McGregor at the UFC 202 rematch. Five excruciating rounds later, Diaz vaped non-psychoactive CBD oil to combat the inflammation and swelling that he suffered from the fists of McGregor.

“It’s CBD,” Diaz admitted at a press conference. “It helps with the healing process and inflammation, stuff like that. So you want to get these for before and after the fights, training. It’ll make your life a better place.” Watch the video on Twitter.

Both Diaz brothers share their unbridled passion for cannabis. Nate Diaz’s brother Nick remains suspended from the UFC for his own use of cannabis during competition. Nick wouldn’t have been eligible to fight as of August 1, but he hasn’t paid the fine for his cannabis use. As part of the ban, Nick wasn’t permitted to corner his brother Nate during the UFC 202 match.

Nate Diaz could face swift repercussions from the United States Anti-Doping Agency (USADA). The UFC alone only bans cannabis use during a competition. The USADA, however, explicitly bans drug use for six hours after a fight. Turning up positive for cannabis in the UFC is not as punishable as say, anabolic steroids, but is still banned in-competition. Since the event took place in Las Vegas, the Nevada State Athletic Commission could punish Diaz as well.

“I can confirm that USADA is aware of the situation and is currently gathering information in order to determine the appropriate next steps,” USADA spokesman Ryan Madden told the Review-Journal.  If Diaz tests positive for cannabis metabolites, the USADA can do anything from banning him for one year to slapping him on the wrist with a public sanction.

Diaz could still get off the hook. He smoked CBD only oil, and only a drug test over 150 ng/ml of cannabis metabolites is considered positive. If he tests positive, the USADA could ban him for up to a year- for treating his wounds with non-psychoactive CBD oil.
