Headset Identifies Unique Factors That Affect Cannabis Sales

Now that cannabis is legal many places, we are actually able to collect data about who is buying which products, and when they are buying. A report from data analytics company Headset has provided the downlow on cannabis sales and when people purchase the most cannabis.

According to the report, day of the week unsurprisingly has a major impact on how much people buy. Fridays are normally the busiest days for dispensaries, as that is payday for a lot of people. Sunday and Monday are the slowest days of the week, since they follow the major sales boom that comes with a new paycheck. 70 percent less is made in sales on Sunday and Monday than on Friday.

Most sales on Fridays and Saturdays happen after 5 p.m. due to average work schedules, illustrating the importance of dispensaries being able to stay open later. Sundays see most of their sales before 5 p.m. Not surprisingly, cannabis sales seem to correspond in peak numbers with brunch sales. Also unsurprisingly, edible sales climb on the weekends, when people can afford the extra time in outer space.

Gender and age also seem to play a role in who is buying and when. Men make up 70 percent of sales, and most week-day shoppers seem to have a high under-25 population. Younger folks don’t seem to need to wait for the weekend to stock up on cannabis. Millennials also seem to be the ones shopping after 7 p.m.

Gender, age and days of the week might make sense as far as purchasing patterns go, but weather also plays a part when it comes to sales. Rain has an impact; it appears that sales rise by two percent on sunny days. Given the fact that the sun-loving states of  Colorado has legal cannabis, this isn’t surprising. Rainy Fridays are the worst for sales, with a 10 percent decrease if it rains right before the weekend.

Warm weather seems to be the main draw for consumers. More cannabis sales happen when it is 65 degrees or warmer out. Warm weather and no rain seems to be the ultimate recipe for strong numbers at the end of the day.

Overall, it appears that the numbers support what most people have already guessed about cannabis consumption. Young people are buying a lot of cannabis and sales are taking place on the weekends when weather is good.
