San Jose’s Bay Leaf dispensary has a mysterious, sativa-dominant super-strain going by the name of Green Lantern, with a backstory shrouded in mystery. Allegedly an exotic, long-lost 50-year-old cut that recently returned to the mainstream, Green Lantern comes in large-sized, dense, trichome-covered nugs. Totally alien, Green Lantern sports some of the most peppery-smelling cannabis flowers we’ve ever sniffed. It’s likely due to tons of caryophyllene—a pungent aromatic molecule also found in black pepper, marigolds and Echinacea. Hints of clove and a certain woodiness appear as well. This cut’s stem breaks with a snap, indicating good curing and appropriate water content, and a grinder unleashes more pepper smells, along with pine—funky, too! Green Lantern hits stealthy-smooth, though, with little flavor save a whiff of sweet pine specific to Jack Herer. It’s still powerful medicine, though, making it effective for treating asthma, depression, anxiety and chronic pain.
