[dropcap class=”kp-dropcap”]O[/dropcap]fficials in Germany recently approved cultivation sites for its brand-new cannabis industry.

According to the German Federal Institute for Drugs and Medical Devices, the final results of the domestic cultivation application process has finally been announced. According to a translation by Marijuana Business Daily, lots of licenses for Aurora, Aphria and Demecan have been assigned, and the companies now have 18 months to deliver their first harvest, which must meet standards set forth by the Good Agricultural and Collection Practices (GACP) and Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) quality standards.

No outdoor growing will be allowed; instead, the companies will have to produce in indoor facilities with standards that have been called “bunker-like” as far as security measures go. The contracted production is currently for 13 lots, which equal 10,400 kilograms (22,928 pounds) over four years.

This translates to about 200 kilograms a year, and the contracts currently allow for an increase of up to 10 percent per year in production. Currently, in order to comply with the Single Convention on Narcotic Drugs set forth in 1961, all the production will be officially overseen and bought by BfArM and resold to pharmacies, as well as wholesalers and cannabis manufacturers. The rate at which they will sell it back is not currently decided.

This is similar to how Canada regulates its cannabis industry in regards to keeping things standard all across the board. However, Germany will still allow cannabis imports, as well as an opportunity for the industry to grow. Germany started issuing these licenses in April, and has already made progress towards a well-regulated industry. Legal cannabis in Germany will also be covered by insurance. Ever since the legal industry moved forward, the country has been doing its best to promote fairness and sustainability.
