[dropcap class=”kp-dropcap”]R[/dropcap]ock n’ roll icon Gene Simmons is partnering with Invictus MD Strategies Corp., a Canadian licensed cannabis producer, according to a March 14 press release. Simmons will serve as Chief Evangelist Officer and spokesperson and will provide marketing counsel.

“Gene Simmons is a branding and merchandising genius, who not only created one of the most iconic bands of all time, but has spent decades building successful brands internationally in various industries,” said Dan Kriznic, chairman and CEO of Invictus. “Gene will lead marketing initiatives that will help spread the positive messages that dwell at the heart of Invictus in accordance with the strict regulations of Health Canada’s Access to Cannabis for Medical Purposes Regulations (ACMPR), the Food and Drugs Act (FDA) and the Narcotic Control Regulations (NCR).”

Simmons is the bassist for phenomenon known as KISS. According to The Recording Industry Association of America,® (RIAA) KISS has sold more Gold albums than any other recording group. To give you an idea of what that entails: KISS has sold 100 million albums, 30 Gold albums, 14 Platinum albums and three multi-Platinum albums. The band has also rivaled Elvis and The Beatles in terms of merchandise sales.

Simmons explained why he chose to participate in Invictus’ marketing endeavors. “Values and family are very important to me, and when I first connected with Dan at Invictus, I understood immediately that we enjoyed a shared passion for these key life foundations,” said Gene. “Instead of launching straight into business, we talked about the things that matter the most.”

For some of Simmons’ career, he’s been “profoundly” anti-drug, even participating in anti-drug PSA’s. His son, however, wrote an op-ed for VICE defending the use of cannabis and other drugs. This, perhaps, helped sway his father’s past premonitions surrounding cannabis.

Invictus is behind Canadian cultivation operations in Alberta and Ontario, as well as a fertilizer and nutrients manufacturer.
