ecently in France, a country known for its strict laws on
cannabis, a particular type of  e-cigarette that is called the “Electric Joint,”
was legalized.

In a way, true to its name, the special joint does contain
derivatives of cannabis, but it certainly won’t get a person high like a good
old fashioned joint will. Instead, this product has come onto the market as a
medical drug and sold in places such as pharmacies and tobacconists.

The liquid within this small vaporizer comes from French
produced industrial grade cannabis. However, the all so essential ingredient, THC, has
been removed from the formula, thus removing the drug’s psychoactive properties.
In short, it’s definitely not meant for use by someone looking to get high.

What’s left are the chemicals called
Cannabidiols— otherwise known as CBDs— which are an all important factor in many
of cannabis’s medicinal applications.

The creator of the Electric Joint, a French and Czech
Republic company called La KanaVape, is marketing it as an over-the-counter
pharmacological product intended to create a feeling of relaxation, help with pain
relief, and to ease the symptoms of insomnia. The vaporizer itself will sell at
the same price of any tobacco version and the refill will cost close to $4o.

With France’s tough cannabis legislation, getting the
product to pass through the proper legal channels came with its own hang ups. There
were many critics of the legalization of this medicine, both on the grounds that
it still contains a derivative made from a controlled substance and therefor it
must still have some addictive properties, and also over the fear that this
product will somehow end up in the hands of minors.

However, now that this medicine will have the opportunity to
showcase itself in France as a natural cure for any adult looking to treat a
number of ailments, it has the potential to take off into other European
markets who have since frowned upon cannabis and other CBD containing products
alike.
