[dropcap class=”kp-dropcap”]A[/dropcap]merican professional cyclist Floyd Landis announced on Oct. 4 that he plans on launching a cycling team with an official title sponsorship from his budding cannabis business.

Colorado-based Floyd’s of Leadville is Landis’ company that he launched, which offers hemp and CBD-infused products such as CBD Full Spectrum Softgels to aid in physical recovery. Now the company will be the title sponsor of the cyclist team.

Landis regrets some of the events of the past, but is ready to take center stage once again. “I understand I hurt the cycling community,” Landis told Reuters in a statement. “Now I’d like to take all proceeds I made from the settlement and put it back where it belongs, on the development of aspiring pro cyclists.”

Flandis won the coveted Tour de France in 2006 only to be stripped of the award after he was found guilty of doping. Landis tested positive for high levels of the hormones testosterone and epitestosterone, which are highly monitored in professional sports. Later on, Landis was named as a whistleblower against Lance Armstrong, who also was stripped of seven Tour de France titles for doping.

Landis has moved on to another chapter in his cycling career after a series of doping scandals involving himself and other cyclists. According to the U.S. Anti-Doping Agency, “marijuana and cannabinoids as substances that are prohibited in-competition.” But in certain cases, a Therapeutic Use Exemption can be obtained to avoid doping charges.

Cyclists commonly suffer from chronic pain, especially after years of competitive cycling. Floyd’s of Leadville offers products that can help when opioids and other drugs are not an option. Landis himself discovered the benefits of CBD when recovering from events like the Tour de France, which leaves riders with excessively veiny legs due to the strain cycling puts on the vascular system.

The Floyd’s of Leadville team roster will be announced within the next few months.
