The origins of this 100-percent pure indica from DTPC in Riverside is a mystery. It’s highly reminiscent of Hindu Kush in taste and aroma and similar to Sour Diesel in appearance, but we’d be guessing if we tried to pin a lineage on it. Let’s stick with what we do know: Empire OG is in virtually every regard what can only be described as a perfect strain. Largely pale green with patches of golden hairs, the heart-shaped buds are tightly packed and sticky with THC-rich resin. The sample we tried was masterfully cured, burning with such evenness that just one lighting was required to cash the bowl, leaving behind pure-white ash that’s the hallmark of truly fine-quality cannabis. We’ve tried hundreds of strains over the years, but few hit with the force and immediacy of Empire OG—it literally intoxicates on the first exhale. After the third exhale, this reviewer was suddenly and completely wrecked. While it can’t be said for certain, the THC count of this variety has to be in the mid- to high 20s. That kind of potency can sometimes lead to an unpleasant experience, but nothing about Empire OG’s massive stone can be described as negative. It’s a smooth, clean high, awakening sensations of peace and well-being that reach down to the core. We can think of no better natural remedy for serious pain, such as the kind associated with cancer, multiple sclerosis, severe migraines and neuropathy.
