[dropcap class=”kp-dropcap radius”]D[/dropcap]enver and Boulder are great places to be a producer—the electronic music scene is alive and thriving and it’s a great place to get inspired by the weather, cannabis and culture in order to make great beats. Local Boulder producer Elijah Moore is taking full advantage of all the inspiration around him by making music, enjoying local cannabis and making a lot of appearances.

“I got started making music in a basement,” he told CULTURE. “When I was about 14 or 15, my buddy Nate was using Reason 4, I think it was. We would just sit around and burn trees and mess around with making hip-hop beats and random things. Maybe take a break to play Worms or something extra nerdy. I played sax in middle school as well, and have always been drawn to instruments and music. So it just kind of happened I suppose.”

Moore, who describes his music as “future bass and just trap” and lists Mr. Carmack, Bassnectar, Ginuwine (obviously), Missy Elliot, Timbaland and Salt & Peppa as some of his influences, does not like to put a label on things when it comes to genre. “I’m all over the place. I don’t discriminate,” he told us. “I’ve dabbled in house and moohmba, juke, dubstep, whatever gets the bodies movin’. I try to stay as busy as possible. The goal is to play as much as possible, and stay active creating new music.”

In order to fuel his non-stop flow of creativity and production, Moore likes to turn to cannabis for inspiration a lot of the time. “Technically I’m always working in the cannabis,” he laughed when asked about his consumption of the herb and use of cannabis as a theme in his music. “’Cause I stay ripped when I create anything. I think I used the sample from “‘Smoke Weed Every Day’ in a song. But that puppy will probably never surface, 70 percent of what I make doesn’t see the light of day.”
“Usage, will help any creative process personally,” he added, regarding how cannabis can be used by others. “It’s a common denominator to say the least. I was genetically predisposed to be a stoner, musician or video editor. I try to do all three. It helps to be under the ‘influence’ if you will.”

Be on the lookout for new projects this year by Elijah Moore, and check him out in person at some of his upcoming tour dates.
