[dropcap class=”kp-dropcap”]M[/dropcap]ichael Melchiondo Jr., who is more easily recognized as guitarist Dean Ween (one of the two founding musicians who are part the alternative rock band called Ween), announced this week that he has plans to back a Denver, Colorado-based concert venue where cannabis is freely allowed.

According to Chief Operating Officer Michael Polansky, a location and potential name for the venue has already been chosen. The venue will tentatively be called Dean Ween’s Honeypot Lounge, and it would ideally be located close to Coors Field in the heart of Denver.

Polansky announced these plans at a city meeting on Nov. 19. “I think cannabis and music make total, total sense together,” he told The Denver Post. “We think that we can offer a unique kind of musical experience or Denver and the world.” Additionally, someone representing Ween noted that Ween itself is involved in this venture.

However, the venue plans are still in the early stages and organizers have yet to apply for a city license in order to allow consumption on-site. According to Variety, it isn’t likely that the venue would be able to allow full-blown consumption, and might be limited just to consumption in the form of edibles and vaping for the time being. This is due to Denver’s 2016 social consumption permit program, which bans smoking indoors in public places. Also because of this city rule, attendees wouldn’t be able to purchase cannabis products at the venue because social consumption businesses are not allowed to sell any THC products.

Despite these hurdles to overcome, Polansky stated that organizers hope that the venue will be ready to open on April 20, 2019 (for obvious reasons).

Ween as a band has been producing music since the mid-1980s and is well-known for it’s cannabis-themed song “I Smoke Some Grass (Really Really High),” as well as other unique songs like “Help Me Scrape the Mucus Off My Brain,” “Waving My D—k in the Wind” and “Bananas and Blow.”
