How and when did your dispensary
start up?

In 2009, DANK  emerged from the
basements of Greg Gamet and Justin Jones who were had small personal single
light grows. Local musicians and dispensary owners, Justin Jones and Greg Gamet
were happy to grow a handful of legal cannabis for themselves and a few
friends. As it turns out, they had a lot of friends. After impeccable timing
meeting licensure deadlines and beating zoning changes in the north Park Hill
industrial area, the future of DANK on Elm Street was solidified. By 2010, DANK
had a successful, but private establishment that catered to development of
personal relationships.

What’s the story behind the name
of your shop?

You probably know this already, but the Urban Dictionary defines DANK as: “Sticky, hairy, stinky and highly
potent marijuana.” While that is appropriate and accurate, our little known
acronym is D.A.N.K., Denver Area Nuggets of Kindness.

What are the biggest challenges you
face in this industry as a dispensary? . . . 
Biggest joys?

Other than banking and all of the woes of dealing in cash, keeping up
on all the rules and laws has been difficult. “You can go to work in the
morning and by the end of the day a new rule might come in to effect and change
the way you are doing business, “Bryan Sullivan said, a partner who is also a
lawyer. “The time and energy it takes to stay compliant takes up most of my
day,” he added.  Sullivan and group have
also started a consulting company called Denver Consulting Group that helps
teach the industry through their series of classes called the “Seed to Sale
Series” held right on what they call the DANK campus located in North Park
Hill.

The greatest joy comes from seeing first-timers as they enter the store.
“I just can’t believe I can do this,” they often proclaim. At DANK, we thrive on
this personal connection with our customers, and go for the eye-pop effect. Our
store is designed so that there is no separate waiting room so when folks turn
the corner; they see this wall of product behind the bud-tender that blows them
away. We offer more than 100 edible choices, nine strains of bud or more and
countless varieties of concentrates. This is not your buddy’s basement. This is
recreational marijuana. People of all ages and backgrounds are coming out of
the woodwork to make their first purchase. We want that to be at DANK.
