[dropcap class=”kp-dropcap”]O[/dropcap]ver the years, prepackaged snacks like the Oreo and Chips Ahoy have become synonymous with the work “cookies” and evolved into a class of its own. It won’t be hyperbole to say that they are in fact one of America’s most popular snacks and favorite pantry staples. It is thus grand news for cannabis enthusiasts that Mondelez, the maker of these revolutionary goodies, may soon be adding CBD-infused products to their list of munchies.

“Yes, we’re getting ready, but we obviously want to stay within what is legal and play it the right way,” the CEO of Mondelez, Dirk Van de Put discussed with CNBC its plans to introduce a CBD-infused product line last Wednesday.

However, Put said on CNBC that they are not too keen on making cannabis-infused versions of their signature snacks. Even though CBD-infused food and beverages are not only trending but widely available in the market, the FDA has not yet officially declared CBD as a safe ingredient to be added to food and beverages. Hence mainstream, multinational companies like the Mondelez are hesitant about adding the compound to their list of ingredients just yet.

“The space is not clear,” Van de Put told CNBC. “It’s a bit clearer in non-food products. In food products, I’m hoping that the FDA will bring some clarity in the coming months.” Nevertheless, Put plans to establish a new CBD infused product line in the new future. The company is looking for ways to utilize the popularity of the health benefits of cannabis to work into their future product line, such as the literature and research that confirm cannabis’ effectiveness to alleviate pain and anxiety. If everything works out according to plan, the company plans to keep the infused product line separate from the company’s current line of products which adhere to a more family friendly image.
