[dropcap class=”kp-dropcap”]C[/dropcap]anopy Growth Corp.’s subsidiary Tweed Inc., a major cannabis producer, filed for a Canadian trademark for the words “Chronic by Dre” on Aug. 31. Reddit user u/EaterofDin0saurs was the first to notice the trademark filing and begin a discussion.

Update: Canopy Growth Corp. withdrew its trademark application and did not have Dr. Dre’s permission to use the words, MarketWatch reported on Sept. 28.

Dr. Dre has not yet officially announced any type of endorsement for the company. Given the fact that Snoop Dogg released Leafs by Snoop, and that Dre’s seminal album The Chronic is considered to be  legendary, it’s not hard to imagine what Dre or others have in store for this company filing.

In he company’s statement in the trademark application, the goods they plan on developing will include “cannabis and marijuana and derivatives thereof, namely live plants, seeds, dried flowers, liquids, oils, oral sprays, capsules, tablets, and transdermal patches.”

The list also includes “body lotion, body cream, body wash, bath and shower gel, bubble bath, body scrub, and bath salts, all of the above containing cannabis or cannabis derivatives; skin care preparations, namely body soap, sunscreen, skin cleansing preparations, face masks; lip balm, all of the above containing cannabis or cannabis derivatives.”

Brownie mix is specifically mentioned in the filing, as well as candies, muffins and other ready-to-bake items. The company also intends to develop cannabis-infused “body lotion, toner, exfoliant, moisturizing balms, and moisturizing body spray.”

When Dre sold Beats by Dre to Apple for $3.2 billion, he became 2014’s highest-paid musician—not even Beyoncé can boast that kind of money. Beats by Dre products are regularly listed near the top of Amazon’s Best Sellers list. But Dre’s romance with Apple didn’t last long, and Apple CEO Tim Cook dropped Dre’s scripted and autobiographical series Vital Signs last week, because he deemed it to be far too violent. Aside from discovering artists like Eminem, Snoop Dogg and Tupac Shakur, Dre has long been a cannabis advocate as well as a top producer. If he’s involved in the new venture, it will likely add to his wealth.
