If Columbia Gold were a musician, it would probably be Jimmy Buffett: it’s been around forever and older folks think it’s better than it really is. Okay, jokes aside, how can a strain popularized in the ‘60s and ‘70s stand up to modern day “super strains”? If you’re judging from Highland Cannabis’ cut in Denver, “quite well” is the answer. The nose is big blasts of sage with a sweet, Juicy Fruit gum undertone. While their Columbian Gold may look similar to some island sativas (Maui Wowie, I.S.S.), the cure is perfect, with rich amber trichomes lending a considerable body high to the hybrid designation. After a few minutes, you seem to forget your appendages while remaining mentally alert and focused. Which is great . . . until you need to move. This is an ideal strain for knocking out a work project, making phone calls or catching a new movie in theaters.
