[dropcap class=”kp-dropcap”]C[/dropcap]annabis comedian duo Cheech Marin and Tommy Chong have made a name for themselves as the face of cannabis satire, and they are still living up to that reputation 40-plus years later with a recent skit on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert.

According to a video clip of the skit, the duo engaged in some witty banter with Colbert, saying that cannabis is “losing its edge” now that it’s regulated and legal.

“Actually Stephen, we think this news sucks,” Marin said, regarding the fact that Republican legislator John Boehner is now coming out in favor of cannabis legislation. “I mean, pot used to be rebellious.”

“Yeah, now crusty old Republicans like John Boehner are into it,” Chong added. “Pots over, man.”

“So you’re not excited about legalization?” Colbert asked them.

“No way man, it’s boring! I mean the last time I bought weed was in a store, in a strip mall,” Marin answered.

Marin then added that he used to get cannabis behind the store in the strip mall, eliciting a laugh, and the duo explained that they were going to move away from cannabis and focus on edgier comedy. A few of the illegal activities they talked about satirizing were taping NFL games without consent and consuming unpasteurized dairy products.

Of course, most fans of the comedy duo took their commentary as satire. Not only was it over-the-top and humorous, like most of what Cheech and Chong do, it’s also common knowledge that Cheech recently appeared in a cannabis commercial in California.

Regardless of whether anyone took Cheech and Chong seriously, they made quite a splash on The Late Show with their antics, and will continue to be called on for public appearances as cannabis becomes increasingly normalized.
