CBD-Based Nanotechnology Made by Israeli Company Begins Sales in U.S.

NanotechnologyThe Israeli company known as Lyotropic Delivery Systems (LDS) has developed a CBD-based nanotechnology that was announced at the Marijuana Business Conference & Expo in Las Vegas, Nevada last month.

According to Times of Israel, LDS states that their new CBD product can be more quickly absorbed by the bloodstream in comparison with other similar products, and it does not produce any psychoactive effects. “We have developed nano-droplets that absorb on their interface only the CBD compound from the cannabis, and not the THC,” said Professor Nissim Garti, creator of the technology that LDS uses. “Unlike other CBD formulations that are available on the market and are dispersed in oil, our product is better and more quickly absorbed by the body. Our CBD formulation is also protected from being transformed, after it is ingested, into THC which is a risk factor in other existing products.”

Garti went into detail in explaining the ins and outs of how this new technology changes the way CBD products are consumed by the body. According to him, oral CBD pills aren’t fully absorbed when consumed. While in the gastrointestinal tract, THC is destroyed during digestion and only a small percentage of the CBD takes effect. However, with LDS’s nanotechnology, the CBD isn’t wasted in the gastrointestinal tract and instead is carried faster toward the bloodstream.

The product came together between the work of LDS and Ananda Scientific, a Delaware-based company that makes cannabis products. The two companies signed an agreement in 2015, and as a result, Ananda now has the rights to use LDS’s cannabinoid drug delivery nanotechnology. Ananda reports that it expects to obtain millions of dollars in sales once the product becomes available in the U.S.

The Times of Israel reports that this CBD product will be sold over the counter in the U.S. because it is marketed as a nutraceutical, instead of a medication. However, over the counter products are not currently legal in Israel.
