Dr. Seeta Narsai, a specialist in Ayurvedic Medicine, believes that there is strong connection between a variety of cannabis strains and opening up the chakras.

For our readers who may not have knowledge of the chakras, the human body is said to have chakras aligning the body. The seven chakras are the centers in our bodies in which energy flows through. Blocked energy in our seven chakras can often lead to illness, so it’s important to understand what each chakra represents and what we can do to keep this energy flowing freely. They can be activated through a variety of means: Medication, mantras, yoga, intention, prayer, as well as food and lifestyle. Plant-based medicine is a huge part of Ayurveda, and the use of herbs and cannabis specifically can be a large component in Ayurvedic therapies.

Narsai responded to a diagram that surfaced online one month ago, created by the Berkeley Patients Care Collective, detailing what type of strains help to unlock certain chakras (such as top sativa strains, their terpene profiles, and which chakra it is estimated to help unlock). She notes that the diagram, while an interesting interpretation, is more than anything else, an “oversimplification.”

According to the simplified chart, here are the correlations:

  • Chakra 1: Root Chakra – Represents our foundation and feeling of being grounded. Cannabis Pairing: Heavy indicas.
  • Chakra 2: Sacral Chakra – Our connection and ability to accept others and new experiences. Cannabis Pairing: Relaxing and clear-headed indicas.
  • Chakra 3: Solar Plexus Chakra – Our ability to be confident and in control of our lives. Cannabis Pairing: Heavy hybrids, with creative and psychoactive tendencies, offering powerful control and a calm confidence.
  • Chakra 4: Heart Chakra – Our ability to love. Cannabis Pairing: Even and centered hybrids, with a creative and social component.
  • Chakra 5: Throat Chakra – Our ability to communicate. Cannabis Pairing: Clear and cerebral hybrids, offering clarity, communication and alertness.
  • Chakra 6: Third Eye Chakra – Our ability to focus on and see the big picture. Cannabis Pairing: Powerful sativas, with a strong psychoactive and cerebral effect, offering an active and energetic perspective.
  • Chakra 7: Crown Chakra – The highest chakra represents our ability to be fully connected spiritually. Cannabis Pairing: Clear sativas, light and uplifting, offering a social yet energizing feeling of transcendence.

blue-1340076_1280Her most important tip on relating cannabis and the chakras is that everyone is different, and cannabis users can and do encounter vastly different feelings and experiences. These properties of cosmic energy change from person to person, thanks to the intent on all levels of a cannabis strain’s life, “In Ayurvedic medicine, herbs are not the end-all; it all comes down to intent. The effect of a strain depends on the intention of the grower, the processors, the retailer, and ultimately the consumer and what they want their results to be,” Narsai stated.

According to Narsai, terpenese will relate to the first and second chakras, those that control the realms of smell and taste. She says that cannabis has a helpful and complicated nature and essence. “Cannabis has a dualistic nature. It can do two things: Help you feel grounded and balanced, or ground you too much, causing sluggishness, fatigue, or anxiety.”
