[dropcap class=”kp-dropcap”]A[/dropcap]s major companies partner up with goals to create cannabis beverages for recreational and medical consumption, the possibility of a successful business has already been proven ahead of the wave.

Blue Moon creator Keith Villa had just retired from a 32-year career at Molson-Coors when he was inspired by the wave of cannabis products being created in Colorado. He recently spoke about his new brewing company, Ceria Brewing Co., which released a non-alcoholic cannabis-infused Belgian-style beer that sold out in four hours at Colorado dispensaries last December. “It turns out a lot of cannabis products are popular for Christmas gifts,” Villa said to Yahoo Finance, adding that he’s seeing more and more first-time cannabis users as customers. “You don’t taste cannabis you taste great tasting beer with the effects of cannabis and that’s really critical because we found that the taste of cannabis is really polarizing. Some people love it, but most people don’t really care for it.”

Beverages in the cannabis edibles market only makes up five percent, showing a lot of opportunity for growth. Villa is hoping to expand his cannabis beer business far enough ahead of larger companies to get a good hold in the market first. “We’ve heard from a lot of young people who say they want to remain in control,” Villa continued, adding that the beers’ low doses allow them to be consumed casually. As for Ceria’s target demographic, it’s not just younger adult consumers who may already be comfortable with cannabis. “There are so many people who want to try it,” Villa said. “Maybe they had a bad [smoking] experience in the past … but there are others who have this strong stigma [against marijuana] and don’t want to be seen going into a dispensary.”

The Ceria product line will offer a non-alcoholic IPA with 10 mg each of THC and CBD, and a light beer with 2.5 mg of THC.  The beverages, which cost $7-8 per 10-ounce beer, is sold at 16 Colorado dispensaries, and Villa hopes to expand to California later this year.
