[dropcap class=”kp-dropcap”]S[/dropcap]ketchy so-called companies are peddling dangerous vape carts that are tainted with faulty ingredients, and one brand label that keeps popping up is particularly dangerous. Authorities identified Dank Vapes as a counterfeit brand name that is popping up in a growing number of incidents.

According to industry experts, Dank Vapes is not and never has been a legitimate company with a singular distribution source or license of any type. Its carts are randomly filled from unknown sources. “It was never a legitimate company,” Los Angeles dispensary owner Donnie Anderson told NBC Los Angeles. “It was always an underground brand.”

The products feature a professional-looking logo with brand awareness that helps them pass off as legitimate products. Frequently, Dank Vapes products are not even sold in dispensaries, but off the street from black market vendors. The products feature child-like flavors like Apple Jacks or Candy Land. Sadly, it’s illegal brands like these that ruin it for the rest of the vaping industry that run their products through vigorous lab tests in order to stay compliant with state regulations.

This has led authorities to point the finger at Dank Vapes. “Dank Vapes appears to be the most prominent in a class of largely counterfeit brands, with common packaging that is easily available online and that is used by distributors to market THC-containing cartridges with no obvious centralized production or distribution,” stated a joint report from Illinois, Wisconsin and U.S. Centers for Disease Control & Prevention officials.

Black market companies pump out carts that haven’t been tested and that include chemicals that can cause permanent damage and death. So far, the list of dangerous additives or thickeners commonly found in vaping cartridges includes vitamin E acetate, myclobutanil and too much D-limonene from other sources. Those additives can cause serious pulmonary reactions.

A few other counterfeit brand names that drew attention are Moon Rocks, Off White and TKO, although legitimate companies sell products called moonrocks or moon rocks. Stay away from counterfeit brands that are sell vaping cartridges, folks—especially Dank Vapes.
