Scrap the plans for that epic Game of Thrones staycation. The couch is the last place to spend Summer 2015. We’re witnessing the dawn of modern cannabis travel. Look around!

Denver

The first city to usher in legal sales to adults 21-and-over on January 1, 2014 continues to reap the windfall. Denver searches on hotels.com have surged post-legalization. Come for the dozens of recreational shops, stay for the big skies, cheap prices, friendly people, good eats and drinks, hikes, shows, shopping and Yoga on the Rock at Red Rocks on July 25.

Seattle

With at least 18 legal stores up and running, summer is the time to visit the action-packed capital of Washington. Ride and smoke on the fully legal Cannabus, among a plethora of newly packaged industry tours.

Portland

A trip to lush “Portlandia” is on our short list, not the least because Oregon legalized recreational cannabis in 2014 and its effects kick in July 1. Personal possession of up to eight ounces for adults 21-and-over is legal. Stores aren’t open, but Oregon enjoys the cheapest cannabis in America at just $204 for a high-quality ounce, so you should be okay.

Washington, D.C.

Tour the copious museums and monuments of Americas capital under its current regime of half-legalization. It’s legal to grow cannabis, share it and possess it, but thanks to federal interference, it’s illegal to buy it in any licensed retail stores. Why write your Congressperson when you can go physically lobby him at Congress?

Chicago

Expected to draw several hundred thousand heads, shout-out to the windy city for hosting the last Grateful Dead concerts of all time at Soldier Field on July 3, 4 and 5.

San Francisco

Wonder of the world? Check. Notorious island prison? Check. All-but legalized cannabis? Of course. Two dozen licensed, regulated dispensaries serve endless throngs of qualified patients. Recreational users dont have trouble finding a hook-up, either. Careful though, the hotel room “cleaning” fees for toking are bigger than a cannabis ticket on the street. Must-see: Elton John and Kendrick Lamar as part of Outside Lands in Golden Gate Park on August 7.

Alaska

Legally partake of Northern Lights #5 under the actual Northern Lights. Alaska’s personal legalization provisions have kicked in, though stores won’t open until May 2016. Go rugged and self reliant in the Middle Earth-esque state parks system and see glaciers while you still can!

Jamaica

The home of Bob Marley is fast-evolving past newly legal medical cannabis to full recreational legalization. The first High Times Cannabis Cup Jamaica is scheduled for November 12 in Negril. Nows the time to soak up some irie vibes before the spring breakers amass and start taking obnoxious selfies.

Spain

With the dollar surging against the Euro to historic levels, summer 2015 has become the best time in a while to check Europe off your bucket list — specifically the private “spannabis cafes” of Barcelona and beyond.

Amsterdam

An oldie and still a goldie. Amsterdam’s Cannabis Cup in November got a cold reception from authorities. The coffee shops are better in the summer anyways, when it’s warmer and you can ride bikes among the canals, visit the Van Gogh Museum and dream in the Vondelpark.
