[dropcap class=”kp-dropcap”]T[/dropcap]he female-focused cannabis company launched by Whoopi Goldberg and Maya Elisabeth, Whoopi & Maya, will no longer continue to operate, according to a company announcement. On Friday, Jan. 31, Goldberg submitted her resignation to the company board.

“We’re deeply saddened to tell you that Whoopi & Maya will no longer continue operation,” the company posted on its website.

The company’s four flagship products—Soak, Relax, Rub and Savor—were designed based on desired experiences and featured organic raw materials. The products contained natural ingredients such as raw cacao or lavender and were infused with cannabinoids.

About four years after launching Whoopi & Maya in 2016, the company will stop manufacturing and selling its high-end brand of products. The company’s remaining staff members were laid off. CelebStoner reports that the falling out is due to a “rift” between Elisabeth and Goldberg, however, most details are limited to internal stakeholders.

“The company is ceasing operations immediately,” Co-founder and board member Rick Cusick told CelebStoner. “It’s with deep regret that we can no longer provide services to patients.”

Cusick also explained how the regulatory changes that came along with recreational cannabis also took a toll on the company. “This didn’t happen in a vacuum,” he added. “The California market changed dramatically with the over-21 law. It was frustrating for us.  “I’m enormously proud of the company,” he says. “I apologize to all the patients and the people who started it. Whoopi is a very dynamic person. She was very hands-on. She was great to work with until the end.”

Goldberg turned to medical cannabis to treat glaucoma and has been outspoken in the past about her support for the plant. Meanwhile, Elisabeth will likely to continue to run her separate cannabis company, Om Edibles. Goldberg will continue to serve as a host on The View.
