Study Reveals Cities with the Least and Most Expensive Grams
Cultivation device company Seedo recently released the 2018 Cannabis Price Index, which includes details on the cost of cannabis in 120 global cities.
Tokyo, Japan is home to the most expensive cannabis in the world, at a whopping $32.66 USD per gram. Quito, Ecuador, on the other hand, is home to the least expensive cannabis, at $1.34 USD per gram.
In the United States, Washington D.C. is home to the most expensive cannabis at an average of $18.08 per gram. Seattle, Washington wins for the cheapest cannabis in America—with the average price per gram at $7.58. But don’t worry—Denver and Los Angeles are also some to some of the least expensive cannabis in the United States, coming in close at second and third place, just behind Seattle.
“This study has revealed some incredible insights into the kind of tax revenue that legalising weed could generate.” says Uri Zeevi, CMO at Seedo. “Take New York City for instance, which has the highest consumption level in the study at 77.44 metric tons of cannabis per year. If they taxed marijuana at the average US cannabis tax level, the city could make $156.4 million in potential tax revenue per year. This is equivalent to providing nearly three months worth of free school meals to every single public school kid in New York City.”
Cannabis is particularly expensive in Asia, notably in Japan, South Korea and parts of China. Nearly all of the nations with inexpensive cannabis are located in Central America, with the exception of

The numbers provided by Seedo also suggest the areas that could benefit most from taxing cannabis sales. New York City, Cairo, and London, were at the top of the list.
