[dropcap class=”kp-dropcap”]T[/dropcap]he Sisters of the Valley took the cannabis industry by storm a few years ago, donning nun outfits and growing cannabis to support their booming business, providing medicated salves, oils and tinctures. The sisters starred in a new documentary Breaking Habits, which premiered at the Cannes Film Festival last weekend.

Although the film is being sold at the Cannes marketplace, distribution is still being finalized. Sales will be handled by Film Constellation and pre-sales will commence in the United Kingdom, Australia and Canada. On Monday, May 14, Cranked Up, a label under Good Deed Entertainment (GDE), announced that it had purchased U.S. distribution rights to the film. Kristin Harris and Brandon Hill from GDE secured the deal with Film Constellation’s Fabien Westerhoff during the 2018 Cannes Film Market.

“The timeliness of this project, along with the poignant and inspiring story of Sister Kate made this a film we could not pass up. We look forward to releasing this picture and getting it to audiences as soon as possible,” GDE’s CEO Scott Donley told Variety.

The film, directed by British filmmaker Robert Ryan, follows Christine Meeusen, a former corporate executive who re-emerged as Sister Kate. Meeusen fled her marriage with her three children to pursue a new life and a new business. Through the years, the sisters have dealt with black market thieves, zealous police officers, heavy regulations and even drug cartels. Sister Kate and her business partner Sister Claire attended Cannes Film Festival to help promote the film.

It’s a true story that shouldn’t be overlooked or forgotten—especially by those who work in the cannabis industry. Sources report that the film is expected to be released to a wider audience later this year.
