[dropcap class=”kp-dropcap”]P[/dropcap]rofessional tennis star John Isner is plunging into the CBD market with an official deal with DEFY, the makers of CBD-infused beverages—with an emphasis on safely enhancing athletic performance.

Isner explained why he turned to CBD-infused products, and what led him to become interested in the company. “I play a sport where taking a single point off can be the difference between winning and losing a match and DEFY is a product specifically intended to put me in a position to perform on every single point,” Isner said in a statement. “It’s been great getting to know DEFY as a company and I look forward to working with them to help people achieve improved performance through CBD.”

According to a press release, Isner is five-time BB&T Open Champion and currently ranks 15th in the world for professional tennis. He’s also ranked as high as 8th, making himself one of tennis’ greatest players. Isner isn’t the first professional athlete to jump on board. DEFY was co-created by Pro Football Hall of Famer Terrell Davis, with the intention of inventing a new category of sports-enhancing drinks.

DEFY drinks are designed to hydrate, increase electrolytes, improve taste and quickly replace vital nutrients. Each bottle contains 20mg of CBD, providing the optimal amount to enhance athletic ability. DEFY co-creator Davis contributes to Forbes, with pieces about the benefits of CBD. “It’s exciting to see CBD officially join pro tennis,” Davis stated. “We couldn’t be happier with such a phenomenal athlete like John [Isner]. As professional athletes, all of us squeeze as much as we can out of performance and recovery and CBD is making a big impact for John.”

The sport of tennis is beginning to warm up to CBD in a similar manner to other sports. CBD is increasingly being recognized for its ability to enhance performance without breaking all of the rules. Ultimate Fighting Championship, IndyCar and BIG3 all have taken steps to embrace CBD as a compound that is safe for athletes.
