Napa, California’s First Medical Cannabis Dispensary Opens

[dropcap class=”kp-dropcap”]C[/dropcap]alifornia’s premier wine country destination has gotten its first medical cannabis dispensary.

Harvest of Napa had its grand opening doors this weekend with live music, free food and information for interested customers. The dispensary is part of Harvest Health & Recreation.

Harvest calls itself the third largest cultivator in the U.S. The Napa dispensary is the first in California for Harvest, though it expecting to sell its products in Farmersville, Lake Elsinore, Merced, Moreno Valley, Palm Springs and Venice. Pending an acquisition of Verano Holdings, it will hold licenses for over 200 dispensaries and processing facilities in 16 different states and facilities across the U.S.

Napa only allows medical use of cannabis in the city, the ordinance of which finally passed after four years of struggle. California cannabis regulation allows for cities to legislate adult use cannabis businesses inside city limits. Napa patients were previously served by going to dispensaries in other cities or through a medical cannabis delivery company.

“California is the epicenter of the cannabis universe and we are honored to be a part of the culture, economy and plant-focused revolution throughout the state, especially in the heart of wine country,” said Harvest founder and CEO Steve White in a press release. “Harvest has been a patient-focused company since it began in 2012 and currently operates in eight additional medical states. We are excited to bring our safe, premium line of products and dispensary experiences to Napa and throughout the Golden State.”

Harvest will begin with a limited range of products but will expanding product lines in coming weeks. Patients interested in receiving a medical cannabis card can obtain one online or in-store. The store is located on 2nd Street and is open 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily.
