How and when did your provisioning center start up?

We opened in February of 2018. We did it with a lot of patience for dealing with the paperwork and the strong belief that we are bringing the highest quality medicine, the most varied types of treatments and the best service to the Motor City. It is important for us to create a safe environment where patients feel comfortable asking questions and trying different medicinal approaches that work best for them whether it’s topical, edible or flower.

What’s the story behind the name of your provisioning center?

We love Detroit and wanted to honor it in our name. We are proud of this city and to be a compassionate, fledgling part of its renaissance. Kush insinuates “high-grade” and that’s the quality of the products that we introduce to our market.

What does your provisioning center offer patients that they can’t find anywhere else?

We train our staff to be highly informed and compassionate to our patients’ needs. Since this has been a regulated industry, there isn’t a ton of “science” or “data.” So, we put in the work to find the bits of research that have been published, plus carefully sampling and discussing the effects of each medication so that we’re all informed and can share these experiences with our patients.

How has the cannabis industry changed since you have been in the business? Where would you like to see it go? 

There used to be a stereotypical “cannabis user.” Luckily the veil has been lifted on this miraculous medicine, and people from all walks of life are enjoying the benefits of this incredible plant. The diversity is wonderful to see.

What are the biggest challenges you face in this industry as a provisioning center? . . . Biggest joys?  

Banking has been the biggest logistical issue that we run into. Our greatest joy is when a patient comes back to us and tells us how great they feel; it’s incredible. But when we hear how people have gotten off of opiates and pharmaceuticals, it makes all of the challenges and hard work worth it. We know how harsh those medications are in comparison to cannabis—at the end of the day, we’re trying supply people with beneficial options that help them live their most comfortable life. If patients get to us early enough, we truly believe that we could be a solution to their problem. However, some patients are terminal by the time they are introduced to cannabis; at that point, we are just grateful to make them comfortable enough to enjoy their final days.

What is the one thing you want patients to know about your provisioning center? Everything we carry is vetted carefully to ensure that the products that we bring to the market are of the highest quality, properly dosed and are made with integrity. We carry a huge variety of different treatments like edibles both sweet and savory, an assortment of different types of CBD products, several different extracts and brands that are always tested, and flower that comes to us from growers who care.

If someone wanted to open a provisioning enter and get their feet wet in the industry, what advice or counsel would you give them?

It’s a really challenging industry with lots of varied opinions, so you really have to love what you are doing. At the end of the day, what we do is help people in need. If that makes you feel warm inside, all of the hard work is worth it.

What is the most important thing you hope to accomplish while in the cannabis community?

One day, when cannabis is fully accepted again without stigma, we will know that we did our part in bringing this miraculous plant back to the people. We evolved with this plant, and it has so many incredible benefits.
