Also referred to as Weenie Roast y Fiesta due to its Cinco de Mayo due date, KROQ’s annual spring festival, now in its 20th year, presents one of its better lineups in years—at least there’s no Blink 182 or any incarnation thereof. Featuring mostly veteran acts like headliners Angels & Airwaves, Coldplay and Incubus, the day-long music and vendor fest also welcomes back repeat offenders Silversun Pickups (who’ve played almost every year since 2007), The Dirtyheads, Pennywise, The Offspring (hello, 1994—and I was there!) and Garbage (who’ve just released their first album in seven years—and if the single “Blood Poppies” is any indication, it’s going to shred the airwaves). There’ll also be newcomers Awolnation (“Sail” should have been as big as Gotye’s hit tragisong), Grouplove, Walk the Moon and Of Monsters and Men who’s “Little Talks” has been on a raging loop inside the old gray matter for weeks now. As usual, there’ll be a hella big spread of food, beverages, clothing and memorabilia stands, so pack up your sunscreen and wad of cash and go get fitted for your free sombrero. (Jane Mast)
