Ann and Nancy Wilson were some of the very first female rock and roll
musicians I heard when I was growing up. They changed the way women were
thought of in the rock music scene, and they changed the way women thought
about themselves as musicians, opening up the door of possibilities for so many.
Coming into their glory and fame in the mid-to-late ‘70s, their band Heart,
along with other talented female fronted bands at the time including Blondie,
The Runaways and The Pretenders, helped fully form my rebellious streak and
love for rock and roll.

Recently speaking at a WomenGrow event, I was reminded of these women
and their staunch efforts to break into a male dominated industry and how hard
their rise to fame must’ve been, though from the outside it seemed effortless.

In the cannabis industry, organizations like WomenGrow, The International
Women’s Cannabis Coalition, NORML Women’s Alliance, Wo/Men’s Alliance for
Medical Marijuana and many other groups that help support equal rights between
the sexes in the cannabis industry are vital for this industry’s success. Fighting
for equal rights between the sexes is a constant battle in our society, in any
industry. Luckily, in the cannabis industry, parallel with the legalization
fight, women are stepping up to the plate early on and getting involved at every
level of the industry. Though this business may have started off in a male
dominated capacity, more and more women have gotten more outgoing about their
cannabis support and use within the past five years or so, further propelling
the equality of the sexes toward balance in the cannabis industry.

As you read this issue, and learn about the Wilson sisters and their
experience in the music industry, their unwavering dedication to their craft and
their resilience in the face of adversity, I hope it inspires you the way it
inspired me—to remain hopeful and passionate, pouring your heart into what you love
to do, as we follow the path to success and happiness like that of trailblazers
in this cannabis market space.

Sincerely,
