If you’re looking for a new vacation getaway before fall begins, then it’s time to consider a few easy options. As one last hurrah before the kids go to school, before the summer fun truly ends, or whatever great excuse you can find to escape for a while, High Vibes Roots and Reggae Festival invites cannabis lovers across the globe to check out this monumental event.

The first portion of the festival actually begins on Friday, Sept. 2 with the CanEx Jamaica Conference and Expo. Anyone who is interested in the business side of cannabis, including topics regarding medical and recreational, is welcome to attend (tickets are sold separately from the musical festival). There is no requirement to be a medical patient in order to attend this event, only that attendees must be 18 years or older.

The real party begins at the start of the weekend, with two full days of music and a great artist lineup. Check out Ky-Mani Marley, Beenie Man, Lee “Scratch” Perry, Subatomic System and Kassiano, among a few other talented musicians that will be announced. Taking place during the U.S. Labor Day Weekend, the High Vibes Roots and Reggae Festival also has a rich offering of Rastafari culture to pair with the reggae tunes. Explore comedy and stage shows, try out Jamaican cuisine, browse the many vendors, and most importantly, discover how cannabis has had a lasting impact on the Rastafari religion.

Although this event takes place in the beautiful state of Florida, there’s still plenty to admire from our local Jamaican neighbors. Cannabis use in the country has become relaxed within the past year or two, especially following the landmark decision by the Jamaican House of Representatives. In February 2015, the house decided to pass a law that decriminalized possession of cannabis, allowing up to two ounces, as well as approving the cultivation of up to five cannabis plants. The High Vibes Roots and Reggae Festival honors the important history and culture of both Jamaican and Rastafari people, and it’s a great way to celebrate the end of summer.
