Former pro-cyclist Floyd Landis has announced that he is going to launch a new career producing high quality cannabis products under the brand name of Floyd’s of Leadville. He intends to make recreational vapes and edibles as alternatives to addictive painkillers.

“I am really excited about this new phase of my life,” Landis said in a press release. “The cannabis industry is growing fast and I am fortunate to have this opportunity to play a role.”

Floyd’s of Leadville will specialize in pesticide-free cannabis oil “from high altitude growers using an industry-leading, pharmacy grade CO2 extraction process.” Early product release and social media shares reveal two applications of the oil: A topical cream and pre-filled vaporizer cartridges. Both topical and oil vaporizer cartridges are some of the most popular forms to ingest cannabis, recently.

Landis says it’s important for people to know there are alternatives to opioid pain killers and other prescription pharmaceutical drugs to relieve pain and inflammation. Those types of medicines are addictive, and cause hundreds of deaths every day. Landis had hip surgery in 2006 due to chronic pain from a bike crash.

“The therapeutic uses for cannabis can’t be ignored,” Landis says. “For years I relied on opioid pain relievers to treat my hip pain. With cannabis, I find that I can manage my pain and have a better quality of life. We need to give people a safer alternative.”

Landis is also offering a promotional discount to U.S.A. Cycling members, giving 15 percent off if you show your license. Floyd’s of Leadville officially launched its line of vapes, edibles and other cannabis products on June 30 at Club Vinyl in Denver.
