Published

[dropcap class=”kp-dropcap”]T[/dropcap]he Golden State has a reputation very closely associated with the images of Los Angeles beaches, celebrities and loads of traffic. Yet beyond the stereotypes commonly tied to Southern California, there exists an entire other side of the state that can all be found in its northern half. As one of the latest states to implement recreational and adult use of cannabis, California has a lot to offer its visitors and few gems that are sometimes forgotten. Consumers should always be cautious when consuming cannabis in certain areas of this beautiful region, especially if you’re located on a federal property such as a state park.

Explore Yosemite National Park

Resting in the Sierra Nevada, Yosemite National Park holds a handful of treasures that won’t want to be missed by those who get starstruck by natural beauty. From glaciers to deep valleys, Yosemite keeps its guests busy with all there is to see. It spans nearly 1,2000 square miles with countless winding roads that offer many scenic views. First time visitors should be sure to make stop number one at Tunnel View, where one can get a complete view of Yosemite Valley. Bridalveil Fall proves to be another must-see as it is the tallest waterfall in Yosemite’s southern rim at 620 feet. Park visitors can take a brief hike for optimal viewing of the falls with some trails leading into splash zones! For those who like to stay dry, consider Mariposa Grove featuring the giant Sequoia trees or Glacier Point where you can feast your eyes on a gorgeous sunset. It is no doubt that this park can take up a full day or more, the perfect place to squash any boredom! CULTURE recommends that consumers enjoy Yosemite without bringing or consuming cannabis, as it is still illegal under federal law. But even without cannabis, Yosemite’s natural splendor should be enjoyed by all!

Enjoy Cannabis Culture in Humboldt County

Partly known for its agriculture, Humboldt County has a reputation for its cannabis cultivation. Situated as one of the three locations making up the Emerald Triangle, the biggest cannabis-producing region in the nation, this is a great tourist destination for anyone wanting a thorough experience of the cannabis industry. Visitors can join in on the Humboldt Cannabis Tours to see how an outdoor cannabis farm operates and then dine on a gourmet meal featuring locally grown ingredients. As an added bonus, include Cannifest on the itinerary by visiting Humboldt County in April. Each year in the city of Eureka the festival hosts discussion panels, cannabis competitions and much more.

Become a San Franciscan for a Day

The city of San Francisco brings in 25.5 million tourists in one year alone. From iconic landmarks like the Golden Gate bridge to historical sites like Alcatraz, the city has a lot to offer its visitors from all over. Famous for its clam chowder bread bowls and classic red cable cars, it’s nearly impossible to run out of things to do in the city. With a colorful and diverse culture, San Francisco is home to one of the most well-known Pride celebrations. Visitors in June can take part in the massive two-day event by enjoying the parade, inspirational speakers and performers that have all come together to celebrate the LGBTQ community. Booking a trip in April may also be worthwhile for anyone ready to witness the 420 celebrations on Hippie Hill. Dating back to the 1970’s, this event has only been officially organized in recent years. Experience the sea of people that flock to Golden Gate Park to celebrate cannabis and all its glory. With vendors for your munchies, live music to feed the vibes and a crowd of happy people, Hippie Hill on 420 is an event for the books.

Get Lost in the Redwood Forest

Known for being the tallest trees on the planet, Redwoods are not the only thing to be found at the Redwood National and State Parks. Sprinkled along the Northern California coast, the trees and parks alike take up about 139,000 acres of space. As the national park celebrates its 50th anniversary, there are special events and exhibits sitting on top of the already breathtaking views of the Redwoods. Take a drive down Davidson Road to reach the sandy grounds of Gold Bluffs Beach where you make come a across an elk or two. Be sure to not miss the wonders of Fern Canyon where the natural walls of the canyon are draped in lush green ferns that may leave your feet soaked! Whale watchers can be amazed at the Klamath River Overlook and catch a glimpse of the gray whale migration in winter. And of course, take the time to wander through the labyrinth of Redwood trees that seem to touch the sky. Keep in mind that this area requires the same rule as Yosemite—cannabis is illegal on federally owned property.

Treat Yourself in Trinity Center

Trinity Center, another a member of the Emerald Triangle, is also home to California’s first cannabis-friendly resort. This city will quickly take tourists to an oasis of relaxation at Feeling Groovy at Eagle Creek Ranch. While the ranch has been around for decades, the resort was just recently founded in 2017. It offers outdoor spaces for smoking, a 4:20 Happy Hour, morning yoga, horseback riding and more. Through the property runs Trinity River where guests can fish and even pan for gold, as the ranch has never been mined. Guests may even spot a few signs of wildlife as black bears, elk, bald eagles and a host of other animals often live in the area. With all their activities and family-friendly atmosphere, Eagle Creek Ranch easily can be the perfect peaceful getaway.
