Hempstalk, Portland’s largest medicinal cannabis festival will commence on September 27th at Tom McCall Waterfront Park. Founded in 2005— with the aim to provide awareness concerning the medicinal, emotional, and mental benefits of cannabis whilst advocating for its decriminalization— Hempstalk is more than just a “jolly jamboree”, it’s a movement.

The festival has been growing exponentially since its inception – last year’s event, held at Kelley Point Park attracted around 60,000 people  according to event coordinators. Oregon has one of the highest rates of cannabis use in the United States, and in 1973, was the first state to decriminalize the possession of cannabis. It is no surprise that a gathering like this draws large, enthusiastic crowds from all over Oregon and the Pacific Northwest.

Featuring two stages, and the Hempstalk Pavilion main stage, live performers and guest speakers are sure to rouse attendees. Lukas Nelson & Promise of the Real, John Trudell and Bad Dog, Herbivores and more are on the musical bill. There will also be a number of food and goods vendors, along with informational booths. Some notable sponsors are THCF (The Hemp and Cannabis Foundation), Golden XTRX, and CRRH (Campaign for the Restoration and Regulation of Hemp).

Guest speakers this year include THCF and CRRH director Paul Stanford, Hemp News editor, Steve Elliot, renowned author Chris Bennett, Parents 4 Pot’s representative Anna Diaz, Attorney Bradley Steinman and many more.

Hempstalk’s goal is not only to advocate the legalization of cannabis for medicinal and recreational use, but also promote hemp seed oil as a Green alternative energy source for industrial applications. According to Hempstalk founder, Paul Stanford, “…We believe hemp will save the Earth’s biosphere with the adoption of hemp seed for bio-diesel fuel, which will solve the energy and world hunger problems, and stop deforestation when hemp fiber is used for paper and building materials. We shall overcome!”

Now that’s an inspiring message we can get on board with.

Hempstalk is Sept. 27 and 28 and is free to attend, but a $10 donation is encouraged.
